The Inward Reality: Food for the Mystic

"It is giving you an incentive to be proud of me, which you can use against men who are proud of externals instead of the inward reality." - 2 Corinthians 5:12 (James Moffatt Translation)

"Now do not let the word "mystic" scare you off. It simply means one who has moved from mere belief systems or belonging systems to actual inner experience. All spiritual traditions agree that such a movement is possible, desirable, and available to everyone. In fact, Jesus seems to say that this is the whole point! (See, for example, John 10:19-38)" - The Naked Now by Richard Rohr

"so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father." - John 10:38

"When we abandon the visible riches of this world, then, we reject not our own but others' wealth, even though we boast either of having acquired it by our own labor or of having inherited it from our ancestors. For, as I have said, nothing is ours except this one thing, which is possessed by the heart, which clings to the soul, and which can never be taken away by anyone. Christ speaks accusingly about visible riches to those who hold on to them as if they were their own and who do not want to share them with the needy: "If you have not been faithful in what is another's, who will give you what is yours? It is not only daily experience, therefore, which clearly teaches that these riches are another's; even the very word of the Lord has called them such." - Desert Father Abba Paphnutius

"And Thou didst beat back my weak sight, dazzling me with Thy splendor, and I thrilled with love and dread; and I perceived that I was far away from Thee in the land of unlikeness, as if I heard Thy voice from on high crying to me --- 'I am the Food of the full-grown; grow, and thou shalt feed on Me'" -St. Augustine (Confessions)

"Listen, O daughter, Consider and incline your ear (to heaven); Forget your own people also, and your father’s house;" - Psalm 45:10

Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you (The Promise Land). - Genesis 12:1

So we look/consider not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are visible are temporal (just brief and fleeting), but the things which are invisible are everlasting and imperishable." - 2 Corinthians 4:18
